Patients do not often stop to consider some of the behind the scenes activities in a hospital. They might get to see the cleaning crew come through from time to time and disinfect the areas, but rarely do they see how much routine maintenance goes into maintaining a well ran hospital. There are all kinds of gauges that need calibrated, items that need tested, and other weekly, monthly and yearly checks. You can not just install a system and expect it to work flawlessly forever. A patient might compare it to a catheter that they have had installed. It can’t just be there forever. There is a certain amount of catheter maintenance that needs to be performed to keep it clean and other things. Sometimes items need to be sent out to a third party for evaluation and proper maintenance. Other items can be handled in house by the staff onsight.
